Hi, we're Teresa & Lynn of The Good Place to talk.  Lynn likes to think of us as the Charlie's Angel of Therapy!

Find out more about us below.

Teresa de Billot

Hi, I’m Teresa and I LOVE being a counsellor.   I bring a deep level of empathy and a genuine desire to help clients find the answers.  While there is a lot of theoretical learning to become a counsellor, I believe the necessary innate traits and qualities are just as important. You can’t fake being authentic!

WHAT LYNN SAYS ABOUT TERESA

Teresa is from Cornwall and recently made me a vegetarian pasty to celebrate St. Piran’s Day ( Gool Peran).  My pasty  had a letter L made in pastry to ensure I didn’t munch into the meatier versions. This thoughtful act shows the level of care Teresa gives to people in her life. She pays attention to detail and is a great person to have at your back. Teresa will support you to the max in he counselling process !

Teresa is bright and able – a highly skilled counsellor with a hearty laugh.

It's never too late to find your vocation

Born in Cornwall, I ended up in the Highlands via periods living in South Africa, London and a 6 month world trip.  I had always regretted not going to university when I “should” have but, in my early 40s, I realised there was nothing stopping me doing it. I chose to study Psychology, and I soon realised that I want to be working with people as a therapist. So, alongside my final years' study, I began a counselling diploma as well, and it was the best decision I ever made. I learnt so much, personally as well as professionally.

Working with young people was always an ambition of mine – I wish I had had someone to talk to when I was a teenager – so I soon branched out into child and youth counselling, mainly with high school students but also with younger children, often using play therapy. But I still love working with adults – it’s never too late to make a change!

As a person centred counsellor, I can work with any issue as we will focus on your feelings and beliefs and uncovering your inner resources, rather than the presenting issue, which is often a symptom rather than the problem itself.

FUN FACTS

I like good food, cooking, meditating, travel, knitting and quizzes - in 2018, I was a semi-finalist on Mastermind!

Lynn MacAllister

I am warm, easy to talk to and have years of experience helping people.  I will listen really carefully to what you say and also what you don't say. We will work together finding what is getting in your way and working towards a way forward.

WHAT TERESA SAYS ABOUT LYNN

Someone once described Lynn as the nicest person in the world, and I can’t argue with that! She has the biggest heart and sees the best in everyone. But she’s no pushover and has a strong sense of ethics. Lynn has a great sense of humour and we bonded over our love of the TV show The Good Place – hence the name of our website!

Finally, I feel that I have found a job that makes my heart sing

I started working on a YTS programme in the 80s at an accountancy office ……it did not go well as I kept forgetting where I was in the adding up. This was not the career for me.

I drifted into primary teaching not actually knowing what a degree was but, it opened the world up. I was able to live, work and travel in many different countries. My love of travel and meeting people from different places began. I learned a lot about diffent cultures, language and religions.

I retrained and moved into secondary teaching working with children and their family with learning difficulties. I loved this role and worked on developing opportunities for the young people.

In 2011 I had an accident which temporarily put me out of action for six months. Unable to move I had lots of time to think and decided to begin the process of changing career.  This led to counselling and psychotherapy which I love – helping people.

I originally trained as a Person Centred Counsellor and I would say that I always have that approach at the heart of my counselling.  However, I am also fully qualified and accredited in Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and will often integrate the two approaches.  CBT is a talking therapy that can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave.  I am now Accredited with BABCP which is the gold star of psychotherapy.

FUN FACTS

I like yoga, animals, the theatre, Nordic thrillers and eating dark chocolate. I lived in inland Spain for five years and speak Spanish quite badly.  Most of all I enjoy spending time with my friends and family…. This brings me great happiness.
